Ep. 2: Featuring Patty Ahlman

Recreation Partner Acrobatics & Handstand Coach

Passion to Legacy

Today’s guest, Patty Ahlman is a recreational partner acrobatics and handstand coach in Orange County, California. She is passionate about helping women uncover their purpose and make a meaningful impact in their community. In this episode, Patty gives detailed insight into what partner acrobatics is and how it has completely transformed her life.

What’s so special about partner acobatics?

Patty’s sister introduced her to the world of partner acrobatics 10 years ago. At the time, Patty was searching for connection and community. Surprisingly, the acrobatics community is very large. “I can go anywhere in the world (pre-covid) and have a group of friends that maybe I haven't met yet, but they practice partner acrobatics. Because of that, we have this shared passion,” she exclaims.

Unlike the individual solo practice of yoga, the purpose of partner acrobatics is to connect with each other, both physically and verbally. There's a lot of friendships that build, sometimes even romantic relationships. Community is huge! There are even jams that occur; indoor/outdoor group meetups. Everybody gathers with a shared purpose. Not only in local communities, but also neighboring communities and even at festivals, workshops and intensives.

Patty’s day-to-day role as a coach is more like that of a cheerleader. As a coach, trust is the biggest component between her and her students. Along with hands-on training, there is a good amount of personal development and growth that goes along with coaching. “The impact that this community has had on my life, as well as my own personal growth, has been the best part of coaching,” she shares. After leaving an abusive relationship of 15 years, the acrobatics community gave her a sense of belonging.

Aside from partner acrobatics, Patty is currently working on building out her own personal coaching business and working with women to help them uncover their purpose and make an impact in their community. She also plans to continue teaching her style of coaching with her community, as well as giving back to groups focused on social justice, working with victims and survivors of domestic violence, and also in support of the LGBTQ community.
